VPN Player Diary – April 27, 2009

I’ve never been a lucky person. Never. Oh, I’ve won a couple of trinkets in my time and even gotten a break or two that put me ahead of someone else, but I’ve never won a big prize or been the one that gets that rare item before anyone else……until now that is….

Here’s the interesting thing. I came into this game with no expectations – no illusion of grandeur – no thoughts of ‘beating’ anybody else at anything. And then, things started happening. Little things at first. Oh sure, most of the achievements are either easy or inevitable. Complete 10 quests…equip a pet…use the duck…put on some clothes…still, nice to be part of something where there was a chance for me to be in the top 10 most times.

Then, an amazing thing happened. I got a T-shirt from going mad in the jungle. But something was odd. It said I got a T-shirt, but no T-shirt was to be found in my inventory. No bother. I was obviously mistaken. Another one of Adam’s incredibly clever jokes. Well, what do you know, I did it a second time and that darn T-shirt showed up again! This time I was more careful. I read the description – I took a screen shot – I wanted my T-shirt! I sent in a bug report. Lo and behold, I’d found a glitch. I am not sure if I was the very first to get the shirt, but one of the first none-the-less and feeling rather good about it!

Shortly after that I found myself the proud owner of a rare sword – The Lost Sword of Captain Crain – and incredibly, a blue text item that would aid in another achievement. What was going on here?

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my share of frustrating failures. I mean, how could a level 15 Pirate Warrior like myself be so unlikely rolling dice for rum?? (numerous times!) And blast those glow worms! They are GLOW worms! And yet they still manage to escape from my bag. *sigh*

But, the luck continues. Was able to finish the Easter egg quest with minimal trouble. Got the save the worms shirt. Got the voodoo mask. And, much to the dismay of those around me, only had to do one extra round building monuments to prove myself and get all three rune items during the Walpurgis event.

Other achievements I worked darn hard for…They Need a Hero, Sssworn to Ssserve, 100 daily quests and still trying for the very elusive 1609 m High Club…(double ugh!)

So, what’s a Pirate Princess to do with all that luck? Why, share it as best she can, of course! That’s where you will find me today…doing as much as I can to help along my fellow pirates. Happy questing!
