Pirate Novices

Ahoy, me mateys! You have far to go if you desire to become a great Pirate and this is a little guide to help you on your journey.

Basics

navigation-bar1

Navigation Bar
The little number next to the head is your current level.
The little plus-sign is your health.
The little lightning bolt is your energy.
The bag is your Inventory.
Everything else is labeled.  :)

Characters
You can create up to three characters of any kind! Right now, the only editing you can do to your character is changing the bio (by clicking the character link in the upper right cornerish of the screen) and changing/adding clothes from the inventory (by selecting an equippable item and clicking “equip”).

Attributes
Attributes are skills your character has. Certain levels of these skills are required for questing and item-use. Currently, the skills are Strength, Agility, Intelligence, Luck, and Fame.

Friends
You can find friends in the search engine or click on their name if you see them in the auction house or in your current location. Give your friend an energy boost of 20% every 30 minutes by going to their character profile and clicking the Boost Button under their avatar. You can also boost their luck if you have a positive amount of luck.

Note: There is a maximum of 80 friends.

Taverns
Speaking of friends, I’ll bet you’re really wanting to make new friends for group quests or even just to chat and have fun…obviously, you’ve found either themeteorites.net or meteorgames.com/forums, so you’re on the right track, but you can also chat in-game in a Tavern.  Here, you walk around, dance a jig, or even have your little pet show up with you (awww…).  These are located in a variety of locations.  the first one is the one in Cutter’s Cove on Pirate Island…have fun!

Coins
100 Copper Coins=1 Silver Coin
100 Silver Coins=1 Gold Coin

Tokens
Tokens can be traded for Reputation Points in Faction Zones. There are currently 3 token quests specifically for Pirates (one for each faction). One in Mermaid Cove (Tired of Fish), one in the Jungle of Madness (Rest in Peace) and one in Cutter’s Cove (Mending the Sails). You can also get tokens randomly by completing quests within a faction zone.

Inventory and The Bank
This is where you keep all your items! If it gets full, go on to the Bank and store your items there. Keep your ducky in your inventory, though. This little guy will bring you home from anywhere you are! This will come in handy when you get to the Jungle of Madness…

Auction House
Here at the Auction House, you can put any item up for auction and get some coinage for your plunder. Not only that, but you can also bid on items. Check your messages often, though, because you can be outbid…

Quests
There are 3 types of quests in VPN. Repeatable Quests, Daily Quests, and Once-Only Quests. Repeatable Quests often give out items that will be required for at least one future quest. For example, the Bone Collector Repeatable Quest will give you Pirate Bones, which are required for the Story Teller Repeatable Quest. Daily Quests can be done once a day and Once-Only Quests can only be done once.

Bonuses (information found by Lycanthrope aka Captain Jack Sparrow)
Bonuses make it easier to complete a quest. The more times you succeed at quests, the higher the bonus, thus the higher the likeliness of succeeding in the future.

Energy
Energy is required for completing quests. The higher-leveled the quest, the more energy will be required. It takes 15 minutes to recharge and you only get a certain amount per recharge. The higher your level, the more Energy Points will recharge when your 15 minutes are up and the more Energy Points you’ll get if a friend boosts you.

Health Points
These little guys keep you doing quests. If your health gets too low, you won’t be able to do anything. How do you get more health? Either by leveling up or eating some food.

Levels
Leveling-up comes from earning experience, which comes from doing quests. Leveling-up will get you more energy points added per refreshment cycle, the ability to do higher-leveled quests, and will unlock new locations to you.

While you will more-than-likely level-up high enough to go to the next location on the map before completeing all the quests at your current location, I would recommend completing all of them until all you have left are Repeatable Quests.

EXP Needed:
Formula founded by Pasqui : To get to level x, you need 150x*(x-1) Exp.

Factions
These are groups of people within the game that you will have to gain reputation with. Why would you want to do this? Well, gaining reputation will unlock all sorts of fun stuff: shops, foods, armour, pets, and quests.

For us, we have only three factions specific to Pirates to worry about (at least for now): Cutter’s Crew (Pirates from our home town of Cutter’s Cove), “Fare Thee Well” Undead (a group of friendly Zombie Pirates), and Mermaids (obvious, a bit, eh?).

Faction Status:
0: Hated
1-999: Disliked
1,000-4,999: Neutral
5,000-19,999: Friendly
20,000: Hero

Locations
Cutter’s Cove: Levels 1-3
This is the town where every Pirate begins their journey. Great Pirates have come out of Cutter’s Cove and you’re no different! You’ll be an amazing Pirate someday…it’ll just take some hard work.

Here, you will find The Slopbucket (food shop), The Swash Buckle (armour/clothing shop), the Bank (a place to store surplus items), and the Auction House (a place to auction your items for coins).

Fort Freeson: Levels 3-5
You arrive here when you’re sent on a quest by a mother whose son was taken prisoner. You’ll have to break him out! Fort Freeson is a storehouse for the Tri-island Trading Company’s goods. This fort is well protected, so getting in won’t be easy…and neither will getting out. Have fun.

Galleon Graveyard: Levels 4-6
This creepy place holds many mysteries from Zombie Pirates to VooDoo magic. The Galleon Graveyard is surrounded by rocky waters that have brought many brave Pirates to their doom. You’ll have to do a variety of things to get out of here from ransacking dead bodies to slaying an evil Voodoo Priest.

Skull Cove: Levels 5-7
More dead Pirates and voodoo are around here…oh and some very fine rum. Skull Cove has a variety of quests that will keep you busy and frustrated.

The Spit: Levels 6-8
The Spit is where you really get to start having some Pirate fun. You get to take care of a ship while a captain takes leave for a while, outrun a volcano, and find buried treasure! Yo ho!

Here, you will find Pointed Plunder (weapons shop) and The Scurvy Dog (pet shop…right now, the only pets for Pirates are cats).

Mermaid Cove: Levels 7-9
What good’s a Pirate life without the magical presence of mermaids? They aren’t all good, but you encounter some awesome stuff here. Go fishing, swim with the mermaids, and find pearls here. After you do your last Siren’s quest, you’ll get some cool new clothes.

Jungle of Madness: Levels 8-10
You start off hungry and needing food…picking berries…but there’s a map you need to find…the paths…so confusing…What was that?!?!?!? Gotta get out of here…going mad…MAD!!!! Make sure you use your Ducky when you leave, so it doesn’t cost you an energy point.

There’s also a quest here where you can get a fancy Captain’s Tunic in exchange for 4 of each kind of token.

Grimbones Jail
This is the only Jail on Pirate Island and it houses the most evil Pirates you can imagine. It’s run by a dictator called The Warden whose main goal in life is to make the world Pirate-Free…be ye careful going through these parts…

Faction Zones
You can only access these locations if you have a Neutral reputation with a specific faction. You also earn higher Reputation Points per quest in these locations.

The Galloping Lady: Level 10 (Cutter’s Crew)
This ship used to belong to Captain Cutter, founder of Cutter’s Cove. Now it’s in disrepair. Here, you will find a new shop, “The Crooked Hook”. You will also find a Repeatable Quest. You can also exchange your Cutter’s Crew tokens for 175 Reputation Points each here daily. There is also another option of trading 10 Cutter’s Crew tokens to do a quest to get either a Feathered Black Hat. When you complete the Friendly Quests, you will unlock a new Repeatable Quest.

The Final Resting Place: Level 10 (”Fare Thee Well” Undead)
This abandoned village is frequented by our undead friends…a ghost-town, as it were. Here, you will find a new shop, “Ashes and Dust”. You will also find a Repeatable Quest. You can also exchange your Fare Thee Well tokens for 175 Reputation Points daily. There is also another option of trading 10 Fare Thee Well tokens for either Black Leather Gloves. When you complete the Friendly Quests, you will unlock a new Repeatable Quest.

The Seaweed Grove: Level 10 (Mermaids) (Some info found by ElfieWizard aka Jasmin Paine)
This place is underwater and you get to hang out with Mermaids! Here, you will find a new shop “Fancy Fish.” You will also find a Repeatable Quest. You can also exchange your Mermaid tokens for 175 Reputation Points daily. There is also another option of trading 10 Mermaid tokens for either Gold Rimmed Boots. When you complete the Friendly Quests, you will unlock a new Repeatable Quest.
